SUMMARY:The Interoceptive origins of reward - Dana Small\, PhD
DESCRIPTION:You are cordially invited to the scientific conferences of the Department of Pharmacology and Physiology. \n  \nDate and time : Thursday\, April 16\, 2026\, from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. \nLocation : Pavillon Paul-G. Desmarais\, local 1120 \n \nSpeaker: Dana Small\, PhD \nProfessor \nDepartments of Neurology and Neurosurgery\, Medicine\, and Psychology \nMcGill University \nThe Interoceptive origins of reward \nWhere do reward signals for food come from? In this lecture I will discuss findings from work in humans and in animals demonstrating that the value of food lies\, not in the food itself\, the pleasure it evokes or the nutrients it supplies the body\, but rather in the organism’s ability to transform nutrients into vital resources\, such as cellular fuel. This physiological process requires the integration of internal and external signals through gut-brain reinforcement learning. I will conclude by considering the implications of this process for understanding the link between the modern food environment and the obesity and diabetes pandemics. \nGuest of : Pf. AmanPreet Badhwar \nSee poster below: \nPoster_16-04-2026-Dana Small \n \nMade possible by our platinum partners: \n  \n \n  \nand gold : \n  \n \n \nTeachers who would like to meet the speaker after the session are asked to contact : Pf. SUMMARY:The fundamental aerobic bioenergetics of Enterococcus faecalis - Dr. Olivia Paxie
DESCRIPTION:Department of Microbiology\, Infectious Diseases and Immunology \nSpeaker: Dr. Olivia Paxie \nDate and time: April 16\, 2026 from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. \nLocation: Room N-833\, Pavillon Roger-Gaudry\, Université de Montréal\, 2900 boulevard Édouard-Montpetit\, Montréal \nSee poster below: \nDr Olivia Paxie April 16th (2) \nAs part of our upcoming departmental seminar\, we are pleased to welcome Olivia Paxie\, postdoctoral researcher in the laboratory of Dr. Yves Brun. The presentation will be delivered in English. \nDr. Paxie’s research focuses on bacterial metabolism and bioenergetics\, with particular emphasis on how environmental stressors influence metabolic adaptation. Her work aims to better understand the complexity of bacterial responses and to leverage metabolomic shifts for antimicrobial drug discovery. \nYou will find below the summary of her presentation: \n \nWe look forward to seeing you there.
