SUMMARY:An Unexpected Mutational Synergy in Cancer Involving Antiviral APOBEC Enzymes
DESCRIPTION:Scientific conferences presented by the Institute for Research in Immunology and Cancer (IRIC) \nSpecial conference \n \nTheme: An Unexpected Mutational Synergy in Cancer Involving Antiviral APOBEC Enzymes \nSpeaker: Reuben Harris\, Ph.D. \n Professor \n UT Health San Antonio \n Researcher at the Howard Hughes Medical Institute \n Day and date: Tuesday\, April 21\, 2026 \nTime: 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. \nLocation: Room S1-151\, Jean-Coutu Pavilion \n Zoom : https://umontreal.zoom.us/j/86085675957?pwd=gQvaXPPj4HbbsigSfFdybO7fhlMtJm.1 \nMeeting ID: 860 8567 5957\nSecret code: 073118 \nConference in English\n■ No reservation required\n■ Free admission \n■ Information: http: //conférence@iric.ca \nPresentation \n \n  \nReuben Harris is an Investigator at the Howard Hughes Medical Institute (HHMI) and Chair of the Department of Biochemistry and Structural Biology at the University of Texas Health San Antonio. He received his B.Sc. (1993) and Ph.D. (1997) from the University of Alberta\, and did postdoctoral work at Baylor College of Medicine (1997-1998)\, Yale University (1998) and\nCambridge University (1998-2003). \nThe Harris laboratory uses a wide range of model systems and experimental approaches to understand how DNA mutagenic enzymes (APOBEC) confer immunity against viral infections\, while in many cases contributing to tumor evolution through genomic DNA mutagenesis. Another aim of the Harris laboratory is to translate these fundamental scientific discoveries into new treatments for viruses and cancer. \nhttps://labs.uthscsa.edu/rsh/team-member/reuben-harris/ \n

SUMMARY:An extrachromosomal phage satellite reveals hybrid mobility strategies in Vibrio
DESCRIPTION:Poster Béatrice Lefebvre April 23 \nAs part of our upcoming departmental seminar\, we are pleased to welcome Béatrice Lefebvre\, M.Sc. candidate in the Le Roux Lab. The presentation will be delivered in English. \nBéatrice Lefebvre’s research focuses on mobile genetic elements in bacteria\, with particular emphasis on phage satellites. Her work aims to characterize a newly identified extrachromosomal phage satellite in Vibrio\, named cf-PISP\, and to better understand its replication\, packaging\, and transmission mechanisms\, highlighting its hybrid nature between plasmids and phage satellites. \nYou will find above the summary of her presentation \nConference: An extrachromosomal phage satellite reveals hybrid mobility strategies in Vibrio \nApril 23 at 11.30AM\nRoom N-833\nUniversité de Montréal\, Pavillon Roger-Gaudry.\n2900 boul. Édouard Montpetit (Chemin de la tour)\, Montréal.
