Pre-implantation alcohol exposure: lasting epigenomic, transcriptomic and brain effects.

Prenatal alcohol exposure can cause fetal alcohol spectrum disorder (FASD), but its very early effects, before implantation, remain poorly understood. We have developed a mouse model of alcohol exposure at the pre-implantation stage (8 cells), which results in fetal growth retardation and brain malformations. These effects are accompanied by major perturbations in DNA methylation and gene expression in the embryonic brain, associated with altered migration of certain neuron types and long-term behavioral deficits. The conference will be held in French.
