Our mission at the Center for Innovative Biomedicine (CIB) is to unravel the mysteries of life through cutting-edge fundamental research. Collaborating within multidisciplinary teams, we aim to understand the functioning of living organisms, from molecules to complex cellular systems, while openly sharing our discoveries to accelerate scientific progress.

Our vision for a dynamic fundamental research on campus revolves around three overarching objectives.

Establishing a scientific research organization aligned with our areas of excellence on campus (e.g., structural and quantitative biology, host-pathogen-environment interactions, cellular and systems neuroscience).

Providing a state-of-the-art technological infrastructure and an environment conducive to innovation and talent development in biomedical research, drawing inspiration from international best practices.

Enhancing the impact of fundamental research on the UdeM campus by promoting interdisciplinary collaboration.
The history of our center
The Faculty of Medicine, in collaboration with the leadership of its five fundamental sciences departments, has initiated a project to transform and modernize biomedical research on the campus of the Université de Montréal (UdeM). This project enables all our professors and their research teams to contribute to the discoveries and innovations of tomorrow. The launch of the CIB’s activities began with the creation of the Courtois Fund in Biomedical Sciences in 2021, laying the foundations of our four research axes, which reflect our areas of expertise.
