Bacterial infections that are refractory to antibiotic treatment lead to poor health outcomes. Pseudomonas aeruginosa is a major opportunistic pathogen that causes a multitude of difficult-to-treat human infections, both acute and chronic. P. aeruginosa not only displays intrinsic resistance to many antibiotics, but also antibiotic tolerance and host-evasion strategies. The Nguyen lab investigates bacterial mechanisms and host-pathogen interactions that contribute to the pathogenesis of chronic airway infections in individuals with cystic fibrosis, as well as novel therapeutic approaches to improve P. aeruginosa clearance.

This seminar will present some of the Trudeau laboratory's recent discoveries on the mechanisms of dopamine secretion in the brain, and on the mechanisms involved in the death of these neurons in Parkinson's disease. This work will serve to illustrate that this neurotransmitter remains an illustrious unknown to this day.
