Presentation

Reuben Harris is an Investigator at the Howard Hughes Medical Institute (HHMI) and Chair of the Department of Biochemistry and Structural Biology at the University of Texas Health San Antonio. He received his B.Sc. (1993) and Ph.D. (1997) from the University of Alberta, and did postdoctoral work at Baylor College of Medicine (1997-1998), Yale University (1998) and
Cambridge University (1998-2003).

The Harris laboratory uses a wide range of model systems and experimental approaches to understand how DNA mutagenic enzymes (APOBEC) confer immunity against viral infections, while in many cases contributing to tumor evolution through genomic DNA mutagenesis. Another aim of the Harris laboratory is to translate these fundamental scientific discoveries into new treatments for viruses and cancer.
